If you plan to purchase food, please come at 6:00 PM, so we will not have interruptions during the meeting. You are not required to purchase food to attend.

Precinct committee persons will be elected for the next two years during the Primary election May 18, 2010. Precinct committee persons can file as candidates February 1 to April 9. I will have filing forms available at the meeting. Please file through me so that any conflicts can be resolved before the election.

Our Speaker is Dennis Richardson, State Representative: Dennis’ decision to enter politics came after he and Cathy decided to pattern their lives after Benjamin Franklin, who believed a person’s first 50 years of life should be spent learning, earning and raising a family, and their last 50 years should be dedicated to giving back to society in the form of public service. To that end, Dennis serves as Oregon State Representative for District 4.

During his first four terms in the Oregon House of Representatives, Dennis has been honored to serve both in policy and leadership positions. In the Legislature he has gained broad-based experience in such areas as budgeting, land-use and health care reform. In 2005 Dennis Chaired Oregon’s Joint House/Senate Ways & Means Subcommittee on Human Services and was elected Speaker Pro Tempore by unanimous vote of his peers in the Oregon House.

Dennis Richardson has owned and managed a small town law firm in Central Point, Oregon since 1979.

He and Cathy, his wife of 36 years, have eight daughters, one son, and 27 grandchildren.

While rearing their large family, Dennis volunteered in various positions for the Boy Scouts of America, and currently serves on the Boy Scouts Executive Committee. He has served on the Central Point City Council, Chaired the Central Point School District Budget Committee, and coached U-12 and U-14 girls’ soccer teams.

During the Vietnam War, Dennis served as an Army helicopter pilot. More recently, Dennis helped develop the Oregon Fallen War Heroes Memorial located in Central Point’s new, Don Jones Memorial Park, next to the Central Point Cemetery on Hamrick Road.

Benton County Republican Women will meet January 25th at 11:30 AM at The Regent Retirement Residence, 440 NW Elks Dr. in Corvallis for a brown bag luncheon. ∴ Guest speakers are the two Republican candidates for U.S. Congress in Oregon’s 5th Congressional District. This district includes parts of Corvallis, Keizer, Lake Oswego ,Salem and West Linn Oregon.

First, Fred Thompson is a recently retired president and chief executive officer of a successful wood waste energy facility. His experience providing jobs and meeting payrolls, saving threatened businesses and their employees, give him a clear vision into what needs to change in the Washington insider’s culture. As a Congressman, Fred will take the same common-sense approach to the difficult issues of the day that he did while in business. ∴ Fred and his two brothers grew up on and around his grandparent’s dairy. Joining the Army in 1968 , he served in Germany with the First and Thirty-Second Field Artillery Unit and in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division. Fred is married to wife Stephanie and is raising two sons, Conner,13 and Sean 11.

Second, Scott Bruun is a fifth generation Oregonian. He’s married to his college sweetheart Alison, and together they have two young daughters, Natalie and Katie. Oregon Representative Tim Freeman brings a wealth of personal and public experience to his office each day, and comes to our meeting to speak against Measures 66 & 67 proposed tax increases, also on our Core Principles as Conservative Republicans wanting to get back to a "sustainable" (used in it's true form), government which is actually for the people and by the people.

Oregon Representative Tim Freeman worked as a field mechanic for Don Whitaker Logging to fund his way through college the old fashioned way, to support his family, and worked hard to purchase his own Shell station in 1991. He is a family man, businessman, and believes in and works for the principles our country was founded on including an excellent Oregon House voting record.

He began his public service appointed to the Roseburg Budget Committee from 2001 through 2008, and in 2003 Roseburg City Councilman until 2008, three years of which were as Council President. Since the beginning of 2009, Rep. Freeman has continued to focus on public safety, including developing a program for placing police officers in public schools, and previously performed a key role in the design and construction of the new Public Safety Center in Roseburg combining fire fighters and policeman together into a single community oriented facility. Freeman is currently Vice-Chair of the Veterans and Emergency Services Committee, is a member of the Joint Ways and Means Subcommittee on Public Safety, and a member of the House Committee for Human Services. PLEASE HELP PASS OUT LITERATURE explaining "NO on 66 & 67" at the door of the main meeting room at the library on January 13 beginning at 6:15 p.m. The League of Women Voters refuses to let "NO on 66 & 67" be presented. The LWV panel discussion on Measures 66 and 67 scheduled for the Library on Wednesday, January 13, is biased. Billed as a "Panel Discussion" with a moderator, the entire panel is stacked with "Yes" proponents. "No" supporters asked to be included, but were refused an opportunity to answer questions.

The president of the local League says that LVW statewide supports a "Yes" vote on 66 and 67 and will not allow opposing opinions to be presented.

ASOSU, our student fee funded student government, and the SEIU were planning on having a measure 66/67 town hall with Representative Sarah Gelser in OSU's Memorial Union; they were going to use our student fees to pay for a one sided lecture on why Measures 66/67 should be passed.

Unfortunately for them, after speaking to the President of ASOSU (it was not him that made the decision to only invite Representative Gelser) I invited Senator Frank Morse, our state Senator who opposes the tax measures. He will be there tomorrow and he will be given equal time as Representative Gelser ... if they want to have their town hall that is. I don't know about you, but my student fees are not to go towards a biased agenda. I hope you all show up in support of Senator Morse and justice at large. Remember; Democracy is not a spectator's sport - it requires your active involvement.

Sen. Frank Morse, R-Albany, and Rep. Sara Gelser, D-Corvallis, will join the Corvallis Gazette-Times Editorial Board for a public session to discuss their views on Measures 66 and 67, the two tax initiatives on the ballot for the January 26 Special Election.

GT: "Oregon voters will be asked whether they want to uphold the Legislature's $733 million tax package, which raises corporate taxes and income taxes on wealthier individuals. ∴ The Democratic-led Legislature said the tax increases are needed to balance the budget and to protect schools and safety net programs from budget cuts. They also said the higher taxes are aimed at those who can most easily afford to pay them. ∴ Business groups [???] who mounted the campaign to force a statewide referendum vote on the issue say the two taxes will prolong Oregon's economic slump and cost the state jobs."

"The Gazette-Times frequently invites newsmakers to meet with its editorial board, which decides what positions the paper will take in its editorials. Those meetings are open to the public, and considering the high amount of interest in the tax initiatives, the paper is moving this meeting to the library.

Members of the public will get the chance to ask questions of the
legislators during the session.

The Benton County Republicans are participating in the Veterans Day Parade for 2009. Come join us and ride or walk with the float. Republican candidates will walk with us and the Benton County Republican Women are providing thousands of patriotic buttons to pass out to parade goers along the route. Please check back here for our entry number and the location to meet the float.

Parade Theme: "Generations of Valor" - With around 200 entries, and as many as 40,000 spectators, Albany hosts the largest Veterans Day parade west of the Mississippi. it is organized and run every year by the volunteer efforts of the Veterans Commemoration Association. The parade features veterans from wars past and present, marching units, military vehicles, and marching bands.

Time: Parade starts at 11:00 a.m.
Parade Route: The parade starts at the overpass on Pacific Highway, then right on Lyons, left on 2nd to Ferry St., left to 4th, ending at the Linn County courthouse at 300 3rd Ave. SW.

We are float #142. We will be decorating the float in the lineup so look for the float on 13th Street west of the police department (1117 Jackson St SE). That’s the area where we’ve usually parked. It will be difficult to pick up riders after the parade starts.

A libertarian student group at OSU has secured a showing of the world premiere of the documentary film, “Not Evil Just Wrong” on October 18 at 7pm in Milam Auditorium on the OSU campus. ∴ This is a wonderful opportunity for our community. It will be shown free of charge and is open to the public.

The movie is essentially the opposite of “An Inconvenient Truth”. It was put together by a husband-wife team of Irish filmmakers who have spent years documenting the Global Warming scam, the truth behind it, and the negative impact this doctrine will have on our society and our world. I have met these two, and they are amazing people. They started out as young, environmentalist, greenie types very much in line with the global warming doctrine, but like myself as they continued on this path what they found completely changed their view of science, the IPCC, so-called “environmental” causes, and the “green movement”.

Please feel free to come, bring a guest, and tell any and all of your friends, acquaintances, and groups and organizations you are involved with. Put it on your calendar! You might want to show up early. There is great demand from students today to know the truth and this showing could be standing-room only.

Since there is approximately 5000 ft of paved road there should be ample parking. Parking is along the length of the road. You may wish to nose in on the grass or park along the road on the grass, if desired, so as to keep the road open.

Note: From Exit 244 to the log house it is about 6 miles.

Do you feel there have to be other alternatives and solutions to health care reform than just the massive spending and government takeover proposed by President Obama and the Democrats? ∴ Then come to a real town hall meeting, hosted by the Marion County Republicans and co-sponsored by FreedomWorks and the Salem 9-12 Project, on Wednesday August 26th, from 6:30-8:30p.m., at the Salem First Baptist Church (395 Marion St. NE). ∴ If going to one of the town hall meetings sponsored by your senator or representative has left you feeling intimidated or that you won’t be listened to, then this meeting is for you. ∴ Most importantly, this town hall meeting will feature conservative, limited government solutions and alternatives. It will also highlight you and your ideas. After a short presentation, the meeting will be turned over to the audience. We’ll feature an open mic where you can offer your thoughts, feelings, opinions, and ask questions. (We ask that you please limit your time to one minute to allow as many voices as possible.)

The entire event will be video taped. Elected officials will be invited but if they don’t make an appearance, they’ll be sent a DVD of the event to ensure they hear your opinions. After the event, additional video booths will be set up for those who didn’t get a chance or didn’t wish to speak during the main event. We will also compile the ideas and solutions gathered during the event and send them along with the DVD.

The doors will open at 6:00 so the event can start promptly at 6:30. Come early to ensure SEIU, ACORN and other leftist activists don’t take your seat. Bring your signs, your passions, and your solutions!

July 14-19: The Wall is coming to Timber Linn Park

The Oregon Vietnam Veteran’s Tribute is coming to Timber Linn Park July 14th through the 19th. The Wall is coming as part of this great tribute and will arrive by motorcycle escort on July 14 at 12:30pm. This community has a long history of expressing its patriotism and respect for our veterans by hosting the largest Veteran’s Day Celebration West of the Mississippi River for over fifty years. I think we should continue that tradition when The Wall arrives by lining Price road from the Santiam exit to Timber Linn Park’s Veterans Memorial with people silently holding flags.

How can we mobilize about three hundred to one thousand people and have each of them bring their own flag to pay tribute to those who gave all for us and for this country? Let’s each spread the word and this information to as many people as we can and ask them to be at Price Road and Timber Linn Park on July 14. (Updated) The Benton County Republican Women are meeting Monday June 22nd at Salbasgeon’s McKenzie Room, 1730 NW 9th St., at 11:30am for a $12.00 luncheon.

This meeting will feature Jinger and Mark Cain, parents of 4 year old Dylan, a little boy who was born with the cord around his neck and was not breathing at birth. He has been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Dylan is legally blind and cannot walk. It has been a couple of weeks since Dylan received a stem cell infusion at Duke University School of Medicine in Raleigh N.C. Mark and Jinger are waiting and eagerly watching for signs that the procedure is helping Dylan. They are also doing an intensive therapy program with Dylan to help those new cells form new connections.

The Cain's banked Dylan’s umbilical cord blood stem cells at his birth, and a few months ago they were notified that Dylan had been accepted into a study at Duke University on children with Cerebral Palsy. On May 23 the family flew to North Carolina and Dylan’s own stem cells were infused back into him. Jinger will talk to us about the use of cord blood stem cells and how they are helping children like her son. They have done extensive research into stem cell treatments and she will share with us what they have learned.

Also regretfully, it would seem that there will be many opposing conservative views from our side that will likely not be considered on the floor of the Oregon Senate in this alternative universe we now find ourselves in with Oregon politics.

Dennis Richardson was elected to his first term as Oregon State Representative in 2002. Dennis was invited by the Reagan Administration to participate at the White House in a series of briefings by President Ronald Reagan and his Cabinet.

Dennis Richardson has been a resident of Southern Oregon since 1979. He grew up in Los Angeles, California, and volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1969. Dennis is a decorated, veteran helicopter pilot who served in Chu Lai, Viet Nam. After returning from Viet Nam, Dennis attended college and worked as a carpenter. In 1973, he married Cathy Coyl Richardson. They are the proud parents of one son and eight daughters-all have attended the excellent schools of Gold Hill, Rogue River and Central Point, and all have graduated from Crater High School. Dennis attended Brigham Young University, Harbor College, and various U.S. Army officer and pilot training schools. He completed his Bachelor Degree in 1976 and earned his law degree at the J. Reuben Clark Law School at B.Y.U. in 1979. His articles have been published in the B.Y.U. Law Review, Tax Digest, Real Estate Review, Colorado Bar Journal and Financial Freedom Report.

HB 2186, pending before the Oregon Legislature, is a dangerous bill! HB 2186 will be considered on the floor of the House next Tuesday, and we need you to respond immediately to send your Legislators a message that they need to vote against this legislation. This bill is an effort to sneak global warming restrictions through in the guise of expanded State Agency powers.

HB 2186 would grant the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality broad but poorly defined powers to regulate greenhouse gasses within our economy. It provides DEQ with a virtual "blank check" to implement any new regulations the Agency deems necessary to reduce CO2. Studies have shown that an effort to limit CO2 emissions in Oregon will cost our state almost 100,000 jobs - at a time when our state has the second highest unemployment rate in the nation. DEQ would be able to ban - without public input - any product it deemed "contains too much carbon."

April 13-17: OSU CR's celebrate 2nd Amendment Week

We will be out in the Memorial Union Quad daily from 10am to 4pm selling tickets for our drawing of a rifle.

Monday, April 13, Senator Jackie Winters and Solomon Yue will be speaking in the Memorial Union Lounge starting at 5pm. Senator Winters will be addressing the Black Student Union and African American Fraternity, and all are invited and encouraged to join.

On Tuesday, April 14, Senator Brian Boquist will be addressing the Associated Students of Oregon State University at 7pm in Memorial Union 109, and advocating legislation that I will be passing through ASOSU which would encourage the Oregon University System, and subsequently OSU, to abide by state law, which specifically says that the Legislative Assembly, not the OUS, is the sole entity which can regulate the use or possession of firearms. Just last week I passed legislation that says the University should abide by ALL state laws, so we shall see if ASOSU makes hypocrites of themselves, or does the right thing.

On Wednesday the 15th, besides our booth, we will be joining the Benton County Republicans and many others at the Corvallis Courthouse at 430pm for the Tax Day Tea Party movement that is moving quickly through the country.

Thursday the 16th we will be having a rally of Second Amendment Supporters expressing their right to legally carry concealed weapons in the quad of Oregon State University. This is also the day that Lars Larson will come down, and he will be here from 12-6pm. Keep in mind; this is the 2 year anniversary of the Virginia Tech shootings.

Friday the 17th we will have our drawing at 4pm in the MU Quad – the winner will walk away with a (receipt for) a brand new weapon of his or her very own. At 5pm Jim Jacobe will be giving a FREE-for-students Concealed Handgun License Class! It will be located in Withycombe 109.

I hope all of you are receiving and reading the daily news items from the Benton County Republicans bentoncorepublicans@gmail.com and bentongopnews.blogspot.com.

You should all become familiar with and take appropriate action on an amendment to SB80, Oregon Greenhouse Reduction Act. It asserts State ownership of water, fish and wildlife, forests, and air among other things.

It states “no investor owned utility, as defined in ORS 757.812 may import, sell, deliver or distribute carbon based electricity in this state.” and “no person may import, sell deliver or distribute carbon-based fuel for use in this state…” Unless they buy offsets or reduction credits. Obviously there is more in the bill.

What is your opinion on health care? There is a lot of discussion about providing medical insurance for everybody and at least 80,000 children in Oregon. A nice increase in demand, but I do not hear anything about supply. There is a well known shortage of nurses now and a shortage of doctors in rural areas, as well as a shortage of primary care physicians. What good is insurance if there is no provider? The current government reimbursement rates do not cover the cost of providing care, so there is little incentive for more health providers.

Charlotte E. Decker, 94, died peacefully Wednesday at Corvallis Manor in Corvallis. The family requests memorial donations in Charlotte’s name be directed to the Grace Center for Adult Day Care, Benton County Historical Society and Museum or Eternal Perspective Ministry in care of McHenry Funeral Home, 206 N.W. Fifth St., Corvallis, OR 97330.

The Benton County Republican Central Committee meets March 5, 2009 ~~in the McKenzie Conference Center (formerly the DMV building) at Salbasgeon Suites, 1730 NW Ninth Street,~~ AT REPUBLICAN HEADQUARTERS, 980 NW CIRCLE BLVD. Jill Van Buren, Benton County Elections Supervisor, has asked us to consider supporting a bill that would allow the Elections office to declare unopposed Precinct Committee Persons elected ten days after the filing deadline date. The purpose would be to do away with the expense of separate ballots for each of the precincts if there is no contest.
